Delayed Intracranial Abscess after 3.5 Years of Acoustic Neuroma Surgical Removal

چکیده
Brain abscess actually remains a threatening pathology despite of medical progress. A delayed brain abscess after an acoustic neuroma surgery by translabyrinthine approach is extremely rare in literature. We describe a case with petrous cavity and cerebellum abscesses by Streptococcus milleri that occurred 3.5 years after the surgical removal of an acoustic neuroma in an 11-year-old child. A high vigilance with a close monitoring and repeated imaging allows an appropriate decision for surgical intervention.

Surgical Outcomes of Cerebellopontine angle Tumors in 50 Cases
Introduction: To report our experience with a large series of surgical procedures for removal of cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumors using different approaches. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of 50 patients (mean age, 49 years) with CPA tumors (predominantly acoustic neuroma) who underwent surgical removal using appropriate techniques (principally a translabyrinthine...

متن کاملThe evolving MR appearance of structures in the internal auditory canal after removal of an acoustic neuroma.
PURPOSE To identify patterns of enhancement in the internal auditory canal (IAC) on MR studies after removal of an acoustic neuroma, including changes in those patterns with time; to evaluate signal and enhancement of the labyrinth; to differentiate normal postoperative findings from those suggesting residual tumor; and to describe MR hallmarks of surgical approaches. METHODS We reviewed the ...

While infrequent, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks are known to occur after surgical resection of vestibular schwannomas. Early signs of CSF leak often include headache and altered mental status. If untreated, life-threatening complications can occur, including brainstem herniation and meningitis. The appropriate surgical treatment for a CSF leak requires accurate localization of the source. Whi...
متن کاملCombined approach for otogenic brain abscess.
Otogenic intracranial infections usually require both neurosurgical and otolaryngological surgery. This prospective, non-randomized study investigated the value of combining both surgical procedures. Thirteen patients with otogenic intracranial abscess were treated by mastoidectomy and abscess removal through the same incision between 1993 and 2002. Another 12 patients underwent abscess removal...
